ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The centerpiece of the Greenwich Old Timers Youth Sports Alliance’s mission is to support youth sports and provide its annual Scholarship Program. As a result of the generosity of the community in support of the organization, the Old Timers awarded over 1 million dollars toward “needs-based only” scholarships for deserving Greenwich student athletes since inception. The Old Timers initiated the scholarship program in 1966, awarding a $500 scholarship to our first recipient, Coaches Lifetime Achievement winner, Garland Allen. The award itself has grown from a one year $500 grant to four year renewable grants of $4000 each.
Through 2024, we have awarded four year scholarships to Greenwich young men and women permitting them to further their education. Our 2024 Four Year grant was awarded to Dilailah Ruiz who is attending UCONN. Our second four year scholarship is in honor of fellow board member Scott Harrington. This was awarded to Dylan Brehm who is attending Ohio State.
The Michael Sandlock Baseball Scholarship, in honor of one of Greenwich High Schools top baseball athletes, a one year award was given to Campbell Clark. He is going to the University of Michigan. The Old Timers administer funds raised by the Joseph Piro Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament. The 2024 recipients were Nixmary Aviles attending UCONN and Julian Saunders attending Perdue University.
The Old Timers initiated a four year community services scholarship this year in honor of past Old Timers President and board member Erf Porter. The recipient is a student with both an athletic background and a history of community service. This years award went to Kiley Goldfrab who is attending the University of Indiana. Our volunteer board works year round to make the events, scholarships and Annual Appeal a success to fulfill our dual mission statements of supporting youth sports and providing needs-based scholarship grants to graduating high school seniors.
